YouTube popularity statistics indicate that science related content is of significant interest to YouTube audiences, with top ranking lists featuring a number of science communicators, and these channels having accumulated hundreds of millions of views. However an examination of YouTube’s popular science channels reveals the conspicuous absence of female science communicators. This study aims to explore and understand this gender gap in representation.
