About

It has been well established that science fiction can be a major influence on the progress of science and the development of technologies, but does this influence and inspiration extend to the desires, goals and career aspirations of the scientists themselves? This study aims to develop an evidence base for the nature of science fiction as a precursor and inspiration for a career in science. Understanding of the connection between science fiction and career inspiration has the potential to contribute towards initiatives aimed to encourage more students to pursue careers in STEM as well as to diversify the scientist demographic.
