About

This project explores the ways in which science, specifically theories and concepts of evolution, can be understood through different ideological frames and how the representation of these concepts in popular fiction can have interesting cultural influence. The X-Men films tend to present evolution as a directional process with defined stages. This is an ideology reminiscent of colonial times and the cultural mediation of these ideas has the potential to reinforce the racist and statist attitudes of the past. Developing a better understanding of the different ways scientific concepts can be interpreted through different ideologies and the consequences of this is important for science and social scholars alike.
