About

Research Focus

I investigate why people share misinformation and, just as importantly, when that sharing actually causes harm rather than being merely inaccurate. By integrating communication science and psychology, I examine how misinformation can affect high-stakes, contested areas of science.

Current Projects

Much of my current work addresses Australia's biosecurity challenges, where misinformation about pest incursions like the varroa mite can actively sabotage response efforts, putting multi-billion dollar primary industries and regional communities at direct risk. I also investigate misinformation across other publicly controversial topics of science such as climate change and vaccination.

Background

My academic work is grounded in a strong practical foundation, drawing upon more than 20 years of experience implementing and leading major communication campaigns.
