The UNESCO Chair in Science Communication for the Public Good at the Australian National University (ANU) is collaborating with the International Science Council’s Public Value of Science project on a report for multilateral policymakers and leaders of organised science, ‘Science Engagement: understanding trust, science and publics’.

The collaborative research team includes ISC senior consultant Nick Ishmael-Perkins, Econnect Communication Director Jenni Metcalfe, Professor Sujatha Raman, PhD Researcher Indigo Strudwicke, Toss Gascoigne, and Professor Joan Leach

At the end of May, this group led two Consultative Roundtable discussions with experts from 18 countries from both global South and North! The groups discussed a new paper critically assessing concerns about misinformation and public trust in science. These virtual roundtables were a great way to hear the ideas and opinions of others in a convenient format.

These discussion gave the research team new ideas and reformatting suggestions. The paper aims to offer a more in-depth perspective about challenges and remedies at the interface of science, publics and multilateral policymaking. It is expected to be published in September 2023, so stay tuned.
