The Australian Beliefs and Attitudes Towards Science Survey 2026
This report was designed, analysed and written by Dr Matthew S. Nurse and Associate Professor Will J. Grant, and funded by the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) at ANU. It is the third in the series, following the surveys published by Dr Rod Lamberts in 2017 and 2018, and repeats many of their questions while adding new ones on artificial intelligence, biosecurity and perceptions of scientists' listening abilities. Overall, these results show that Australians continue to hold scientists in high regard as valuable contributors to society, as prestigious, and as willing to listen, but that the clearest movement since the earlier waves has been towards uncertainty towards several topics of science.
