Combining hard science degrees with knowledge in science communication for human and planetary health means entering diverse roles in exercising your expertise.

The need to bridge knowledge around the environment and how it affects society is needed more than ever. Our alumni have gone on to work in research in the hard sciences, equipped with knowledge that better connect them to organisations, politicians, corporations, communities and more. Some places they work at include academia, government, museums, television and media, and more.

Lee Constable, alumni and public edu-tainer takes all sorts of avenues to communicate complex concepts around science, especially the environment and climate change, to audiences that skew younger. She has appeared on television, written children's books, developed shows and more.

"I think you should do it because it's the best! Studying science communication gave me practical skills as well as the theory behind it. You can learn a lot by doing, but to have that theoretical backing, and the science of science communication itself, has made me an even more effective practitioner. It's given me somewhere to go back to when I come up against challenges as a practitioner and science communicator."
