Mita's primary area of expertise is science education. Prior to commencing her PhD studies at the ANU, she taught undergraduate courses in the Physics Department, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, at the State University of Surabaya, focusing on teaching and learning processes, student development, experimental physics and fundamental physics.

Mita was awarded her PhD in 2020.
