Matthew completed a combined Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degree at the ANU with a focus on biology and communication. After finishing an honours project in conjunction with CSIRO Plant Industry, he returned to ANU for a Master of Science Communication (Outreach) degree. As part of this degree he became a presenter for the Shell Questacon Science Circus, travelling around Australia to perform science shows for school and community groups.

Currently Matthew is investigating sexual health promotion, and the role that university campus communities can play in enhancing this aspect of student health.
