Adam Suckling

I am a PhD Candidate at the Centre for the Public Awareness of Science at The Australian National University.

My PhD research focuses on the potential role of Responsible Innovation in Australian food manufacturing.

Food is embedded in multiple interconnected systems, and innovation has the opportunity to create meaningful change, or to entrench existing problems. After eighteen years as a food technologist across Australian food manufacturing, I have observed both. I am particularly interested in how responsibility could shape truly transformative innovation, and how industry's motivation and understanding of responsibility determines whether change is genuine or merely performative.

Undertaking this research at CPAS connects responsible innovation to broader questions of how responsibility shapes, or fails to shape, policy, and how societal voices can be better integrated into food industry innovation.

My primary supervisor is Dr Ehsan Nabavi (ANU). My panel also includes Associate Professor Fabien Medvecky (ANU) and Dr Anya Phelan (Griffith University).
