Science Circus Pacific social media competition winners

The Science Circus Pacific Social Media Competition has finished and we are so, so impressed with all our amazing entries.
The competition ran for just over a month and we received entries from the Federated States of Micronesia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea, the diverse range of young science communicators that came forward were heart-warming.
We had three main winners, one each from Micronesia, Melanesia and Polynesia. Each received a prize pack of simple science experiments and resources. We were so impressed by the entrants that we also nominated five highly commended awards, each receiving a 12 month subscription to CSIRO’s Double Helix Magazine.
You can check out the winning entries here.
Pride and support was evident from the parents of the entrants too. We received this response from the father of one of our highly commended award winners:
“Hi Joe, Its good to hear from the Science Circus Team. Jumaine and Omar were both excited to be part of the competition as they loved to play with water, bottles, paper, magnets and doing all things science just without the proper source guides. This news brought a smile to their faces and they are happy to get a response from you guys. With these resources, I know they will come to learn more about science and innovation. Thanks and kind regards, Sammy”
Competition entrants demonstrated chemistry, physics, buoyancy, density and more in engaging videos and photos with female entrants being more common than male. Indeed, it was four young female scientists that took out the top three prizes.
