Competition Details

We were so impressed by all our entrants in our first social media competition, that we decided to run another one! This time the competition is open to schools and class groups!

Teachers – It is your turn to submit entries!

We want to see you and your class doing exciting science with simple materials! To enter, all you need to do is send in a photo or video of your class doing a fun science experiment and tell us:

  1. What science are you investigating?
  2. How have you made it relevant to your country or location?
  3. How is it linked to the local curriculum?

Simply post to Facebook tagging @ANUScienceCircus or Twitter tagging @SciCircPacific and you are in the running to win one of three super awesome science prize packs for your school valued at over AUD$300 dollars each!

Parents, we’d be grateful if you could let your local school know. Students, please tell your teacher! And teachers, we look forward to your entries!

You don’t have to be a professional film maker or photographer! Using a phone to capture the photo or video is fine! Your entry will be judged on how it shows science as fun, creative, safe, relevant and exciting through using everyday items and how you answer the questions above. We’d love to see your ideas and creativity, but if you need inspiration we’ve collected some of our favourite activities here. Or you can download our Samoan science booklet here.

This competition is only open to submissions from teachers, educators and curriculum officers showcasing their class or school group – we will be running another competition for all our young aspiring scientists very soon.

SAFETY FIRST: Entries showing dangerous experiments or poor safety will be disqualified. Adults should supervise any potentially hazardous experiments (e.g. use of a candle).

Science Circus Pacific is an initiative of the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science (CPAS) at the Australian National University, with support from the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Competition opens: Friday 21 August

Competition closes: Monday 5 October

Winner announced: Friday 16 October
