Following the biannual conference in Aberdeen in May last year, Fabien Medvecky was elected as president of PCST. He will be in this position until 2027.

The PCST network is the international association for science communication professionals across industry, academia and government. They seek to promote new ideas, methods, intellectual and practical questions, and perspectives on the communication of science and technology, as well as provide support and a network for science communication researchers and practitioners around the globe.

The origin of the PCST Network dates back to a conference in the year 1989. They have since hosted a significant biannual conference, with the 2027 iteration taking place in Shanghai. They also have regular regional symposiums, with the 2025 iteration in Tokyo.

Fabien said of 2025's Symposium: "The PCST Japan Symposium was both wonderful and important; important in two ways. Firstly, as the first PCST event held in Japan, the symposium reinforced the role and importance of Asia in the international community. And secondly, as a process, the symposium offered participants a different approach to engaging as a community."

The next PCST symposiums will be held at Dubai and Berlin in 2026.

As he continues his tenure as president of PCST, there are three areas Fabien aims to prioritise:

  1. Member benefits – exploring how we can offer greater value to our members and foster more opportunities for collaboration and engagement.
  2. Structure and governance – putting in place the legal, financial, and operational frameworks needed to support a sustainable and resilient organisation.
  3. Field leadership – ensuring that PCST remains at the forefront of shaping science communication as an academic field, a professional practice, and a global conversation.

CPAS, as one of the world's leading research centres on science communication, has long been involved with PCST and has always worked closely with the assocation. This presidency acts as a way to futher cement this close relationship ,and will help promote CPAS's role as arguably the leading hub in this space.

"It will be a pleasure to see CPAS contribute and engage with PCST in many ways over the term of my presidency and beyond."
