Science shows and theatre

This project investigated motivation and emotion in science shows; specifically how science shows affect audience motivation, and which features of the show influence motivation. The motivational features investigated were mainly associated with situational interest and intrinsic motivation theories, including value/relevance, curiosity, immediacy (enthusiasm, humour and interaction), and the emotions of interest, enjoyment and surprise. Results demonstrate that science shows are effective motivational tools for a range of outcomes - including to tackle difficult issues such as HIV AIDS and climate change - however the impact of different show features varies depending on demographics and the show's intended outcomes.
