Penny Wilson: “Not for Human Consumption” – the risky business of raw milk

Date & time

5–6.30pm 2 March 2017

Event series

Tonight PhD candidate Penny Wilson will present her final seminar on her research into the business of raw milk.

Raw milk sale is prohibited in Australia; the risk of illness and death, so the regulators say, is too great to allow the legal sale of this “fragile” product. However, there is a growing desire to source and consume raw milk for reasons such as health, taste, belief, history and nostalgia.

PhD candidate Penny Wilson was keen to hear the stories and practices of long-term producers and consumers of raw milk, those who see raw milk as the norm, not as a gastronomic dream. She was also just as keen to listen to scientists and regulators working in and around the raw milk story.

This presentation draws on the stories and experiences she has been privileged to hear. She hopes to share with you the passion and convictions of all involved.
