22nd Jun 2008: CPAS PhD candidate, Eleanor Gates-Stuart has recently been awarded a 2008 Taiwan Research Visiting Scholar Grant. There are only 5 grants awarded in Australia. The program is funded by the Ministry of Education in Taiwan, aiming to promote independent or collaborative research on Taiwan-related topics by overseas scholars.
The grant invites Australian academics as well as government officials in educational departments
who are interested in, or have conducted, research in history, linguistics, cultural
studies, political science, economics, sociology, law, commerce, management,
and education in relation to Taiwan.
Eleanor will be there for the last 3 weeks of September 2008. |

| 8th Nov 2007: Associate Professor Sue Stocklmayer (Director CPAS) was a recipient of the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Career Achievement at the ANU staff awards ceremony.
In congratulating her, the Dean of the College of Science, Prof. Tim Brown had this to say "For the past ten years Professor Stocklmayer has been exemplary in her leadership of the Centre for Public Awareness of Science and her skill and dedication as a teacher and supervisor of masters and doctoral students. Through her efforts, ANU now has an enviable reputation as a major player in the science communications discipline and is recognised internationally as a world leader to the extent that the Centre has been nominated as a UNESCO Centre. In addition, Professor Stocklmayer has been involved in a broad range of public programs at ANSTO, CSIRO and Federal Government departments and has previously been awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Community Outreach. Professor Stocklmayer was appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia in 2004 in recognition of her service to science and to the community through the development of programs to raise public awareness of scientific ideas and issues and by encouraging young people, particularly girls, to enter the field." |

2nd Nov 2007: Sean Perera from CPAS received the 2007 Edward Gray Memorial Award for his efforts in facilitating the first science communication workshop for science teachers in Sri Lanka. The Australia Sri Lanka Council annually recognises a contribution towards enhancing Australia Sri Lanka relations through this award.
