Lawrie joins CPAS as an industry specialist in strategic communication. He has developed and is delivering a subject in strategic planning to postgraduate science communication students, SCOM 8501 Strategies in Science Communication. His appointment to CPAS has been undertaken to provide industry experience in developing communication strategies for science related activities. SCOM8501 provides participants with a thorough and practical understanding of the process used in developing a strategic communication framework and supporting tactical plan.
Lawrie graduated from the Riverina College of Advanced Education (now Charles Sturt University) in 1982 with a Diploma of Applied Science (Agriculture). Since then he has had a number of jobs that have had a focus on natural resource management and in later years strategic communication planning and project management. In 2014 he completed a Master of Philosophy where he researched science communication capacity building needs of Pacific NGOs.
His experience in the area of communication has led to a number of international communication activities. Lawrie is a firm believer that communication planning must be practical, based on clearly defined goals and well defined relationships. He has experience in planning a wide range of communication activities and communicating with many different types of audiences.
Lawrie's MPhil research aimed to identify the science communication capacity building needs of Pacific NGOs.
